Hey, hi, yo, hello there! For those who want to know a little bit more about the blogger behind Wait…WHAT? at KirstenCoachman.com, as well as what the blog is all about, then you’ve come to the right place!
I was born and raised in San Jose, CA. My childhood included two parents, one younger sibling, and various pets.
I grew up embracing popular culture. I was the little girl with the stack of Bop Magazines, and I read those bad boys from cover to cover.
I attended my first concert when I was nine years old. New Kids On The Block at The Cow Palace in San Francisco. I can still remember how excited I was when they appeared on stage. I had never experienced that kind of atmosphere before. It was there that my love of live shows was born.
In high school, I more or less wanted to be Carson Daly. I wanted to talk to my favorite celebs, bands and musicians about their music. I guess in a way, I’ve succeeded in that goal.
I attended California State University, Fresno, and graduated with my degree in Mass Communications & Journalism in May 2006.
While I was attending Fresno State, I started Wait…WHAT? on Blogger in December 2005. It took me awhile to figure out my blog’s purpose. Would it be for news? Would it be for me to comment on popular culture? If you ever scroll through the archives, you can tell that I basically had no idea what to use it for during the first year.
Eventually, I got myself sorted out and Wait…WHAT? is now made up of music reviews, interviews and original commentary. It’s also where I like to give extra attention to my favorite bands and musicians. Music is such a wonderful artistic medium, but also a struggling business, so I like to highlight my personal favorites.
In addition to running Wait…WHAT?, I also write for Blogcritics Magazine, where I contribute to the Music, TV, and Film sections.
Since I started writing for Blogcritics, I’ve had some wonderful opportunities to interview people from across the entertainment spectrum, including Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance, singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw, and acclaimed singer/songwriter and Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas. You can find links to all my interviews here.
In my spare time, I can be found spending time with my friends and family, hanging out with Priestley (my adorable min pin), attending live shows, and rooting for the San Jose Sharks.
Feedback I have received about my writing:
This Thanksgiving week, we’re delighted to honor Kirsten Coachman as Blogcritics “Writer of the Day.”
Kirsten interviews American Idol winners—and the also-rans, then checks out their live shows. She keeps us up to date on the latest Glee soundtrack. She gives us the lowdown on the newest DVD releases…and the list goes on. Both prolific and thorough, Kirsten is always a good read, plus a reliable guide to what’s worth checking out in the big world of popular culture.
